Mabel Stubbs Mabel was 2 ½ when her family moved to Fairfield. She attended the local school and has many recollections of life in the area.

Oh yes we always celebrated that. And I used to we used to walk down the street — where we live now was a vacant block of land next to Penrose’s who were old identity he used to work for the Council Mr Penrose and they used to build a bonfire in there and to go to school we’d cut through there and went down through where the (Fairfield) Forum is now down through the paddocks and John Bookalil was the first house built there with his tennis court yes.
