Jean was born in Glebe. She was 8 years old when her father built a house in Cabramatta. She has been a resident "ever since."

Oh well we had a new cosy stove. It was the latest thing out and we used to burn coke in the stove. It was very cold in Railway Parade it was like a bit of a dip and it was very cold and frosty in the mornings. I don’t know what it’s like now but it was - it used to be freezing. All the pots would freeze up with the hose and the taps and everything. But we had a lovely childhood though it was very care free you know no worries with you could leave your doors open and go up the street and come back and nothing would be taken there was no crime no nothing.
