Arthur Smith was born in Cabramatta in 1932. He went to school in Mount Pritchard and worked on the Snowy Mountains Scheme.
... they put you into a hut with no heating for three months. I found out after they'd try you out and see if you were any good. And we used to have about six blankets and newspaper under the bed, you were that cold. And after about three months, if you stayed the three months they paid your fare, like what ever you paid in fare they'd reimburse you for that and then they'd put you in the steam heating huts.
