Max Anderson

Max Anderson was a policeman at Smithfield for many years. He was also involved in ship building during World War II.

... in the early-years they didn't speak much English and they kept to themselves a lot. Either with their social, their births, deaths and marriages, things like this. But as the years changed, they intermarried — different people intermarried in different ways and I found that they integrated pretty well. I never had any trouble, I never had any trouble with them. But... I sort of... treated them all as I would liked to have been treated myself and I was very interested in the countries that they came from and what they did.
