Thuy Nguyen

Thuy Nguyen was the youngest in her family. When she escaped Vietnam with her brother and sister, she quickly adapted to her new life in Australia.

There were 175 of us and the boat was about 15… 18 metres long and about four metres wide. And we were like packed like sardines. And that was one man he just fell off the boat and disappeared in the middle of nowhere... a lot of children and there were lot of us on the boat. Really packed. You couldn’t even stretch your legs. We didn’t pack much food was the first time. We didn’t know... we didn’t know how long we would be on the boat for. So lucky that the food lasted about six or seven days, that’s when we saw the other boat and we were able come on shore.
